E'blanche - Home of the Leonis Chapter

 

Hemmed in by two freezing seas, populated by jagged, snow-capped mountains and blessed with acres and acres of pastured, agricultural land, E'blanche is the perfect home for the Leonis Chapter. The first of three maps included in the first novel - The Immortality Paradox - E'blanche is the stage for a major storyline.

Colonised long ago during the Great Human Migration, E'blanche is the furthest inhabited planet away from the central star, Tânwen, in the Canol system. Over fifteen millennia, the Leonis Chapter has established a legacy of self-sufficiency, interstellar fuel mining and wild luxury. Relatively isolated from their fellow human Chapters, it wasn't until the discovery of bijoubleu (an unrefined fuel resource for spacecraft) that Leonians became galactic-renowned. 

Capital city, Crin, sits at the heart of four mountain valleys, below the fierce Blanc Mountain Range and glacier and north of the Perrin valley where the colony ship made landfall. Home to the central government, top tier sports facilities and tech-manufacturing companies, the sprawling city contains almost half the entire Leonian population. 

To the far north-east, concealed in the peaks of Terrain de Glace, lies Méreclat. A place of peaceful retreat and beautiful views, villages sit around the central lake in a bowl blessed with a temperate climate where the wealthiest Leonians enjoy vacations. To the distant west, a gentle web of streams criss-cross one another to the north and south seas, providing a constant supply of freshwater to the Planes of Leon.

By the OA19,600s, a long winter is brewing on the planet, forming relentless snowstorms that last as long as entire orbits. Almost the entirety of the White North Sea has frozen over and the Leonians are bracing for a tough period for harvests and productivity. Not to mention, another storm is brewing outside the atmosphere, one that will soon change the political landscape of the entire Chapter.

Ancient Poem Composed by the Calan

 

Famous diachronic linguist, Ritu Kartal, has discovered an ancient piece of literature supposedly composed by a Calan, but transcripted by an unknown apostle of the immortal race. Although written in a modern form of Calonlais - the language of the Calan race - the meaning of the piece of supposed poetry is a mystery. 

The literature dates to the 79th century of the Rebirth Age, deep into the heart of the Calan occupation when the species contributed their wisdom to the human race as guardians of civilisation. Composed in a suburb of Ymaethdir, where a colony of the Triangulum Chapter share a language inspired by the Calan, it was said that locals heard it as a song. The piece was recorded and has been passed down the generations; eventually donated to the Starrise Academy in OA19,608. Since then, it has been examined many times over with scientists hoping to find some hidden truths within.

Now, Kartal has set about translating the piece properly, with analysis on its meaning and purpose. Although its true composer remains unknown, Calan have never been ones to explain every detail of their decision-making or actions. It is part of their complex puzzle that has fascinated scientists for years. Often, it is the primitive, lesser species that we scrutinize; but in this case, we are staring up at the foundations of gods in wonder. 

Any practising anthropologists - particularly in the field of Calonlais - are invited to participate in the analysis. This will be an exciting opportunity for those wishing to understand more about our inscrutable, majestic neighbours!

The Immortality Paradox Cover Design Reveal

 

Finally, I'm overjoyed to reveal the beautiful cover design for my debut novel coming on December the 1st this year. This entire year has been a dream come true, and to finally share the outstanding talent of artist Rein Lee in what she's done to bring my universe to life is an honour!

There are a lot of secrets in this cover, but I won't specify anything yet (simply that reading the novel will hopefully elucidate on any easter eggs). But this is the first major introduction into a universe that I've been imagining for a long time, and I couldn't be happier to be three months away from sharing it properly.
