The third and final map included in The Immortality Paradox is of the Royal Citadel, the only city and urbanised environment on the planet of New Avalon. Surrounded on all sides by a ring of twenty-four mountains - known as the Protectors of Avalon - the city is made of three tiers, each separated by a circular wall. At its pinnacle sits the fortress of Camelot, permanent residence of the Pendragon royal family.
The origins of the Royal Citadel is heavily-debated, but it is known fact that the Calan visited the city on a regular basis during the galactic occupation. Consequently, the local Avalonian people revered them to the point of worship, building monuments such as the Church of Annwn as tributes to their supposed gods. However, the colony has remained in primitive isolation, especially when compared to other factions of the Geminorum Chapter whose advanced technology equals or in some case surpasses those of other human-inhabited systems.
According to local legend, the Calan were responsible for constructing the perimeter of mountain peaks as a barrier between the local population and an unseen danger beyond their borders, and into the wilderness beyond. As such, Citadel outposts were built at each summit to give early warnings should a threat pronounce itself. Though, as of yet, nothing has been sighted. Since the end of Calan occupation in the galaxy, the Avalonians have been left to fend for themselves for over three-hundred years.
Queen Lucretia Pendragon rules as the Citadel's monarch, but delegates her duties to the Queen's Legislature, made up of four "masters" of governing. These include Sagemaster, Speechmaster, Forgemaster and Creditmaster. All rules and regulations derive from their wisdom, roles for which training and mentoring is essential. The entire economy is entirely self-sufficient, relying on agricultural trade from the fields near the River Dulas, as well as crafting, sewing, construction and the arts.
